The
woman’s husband also incorporates a fitness scheme into his daily routine by
cycling to the suburban railroad station, walking from the city station to his
office, and using the stairs instead of the elevator to reach his third-floor office.
At home, he disengages his television remote control, and walks upstairs to use
the phone instead the downstairs extension. In the backyard, he mows the lawn,
rakes leaves, shovels, and splits and stacks firewood.
These
home activities bring the couple more relaxation during their leisure hours,
and less boredom, which they used to dispel with calorie-rich snacks between
meals. More than that – they now have the satisfaction and pride of improving
their home through their own labor. Tension headaches and occasional insomnia
disappear as they discover a new enthusiasm for life.
