     Today more people have discovered the joy of jogging and running. There are over 100 books on the subject in print and at least four magazine devoted exclusively to running. Every town seems to have its neighborhood joggers.

     Although many people use the terms "jogging" and "running" interchangeably, the National Jogging Association defines jogging as "a run done at a comfortable pace primarily for exercise and recreation," whereas running is usually faster and geared toward competition. Many runners actually star out jogging for fitness and, after building skill and endurance, go on to compete.

     Yet, jogging is not for everyone. Those with a compulsion to compete and excel are likely to push too hard, quickly becoming discourage and possibly injuring themselves. Others might find it boring, and some might have physical problems that jogging unwise. Only your doctor can determine if you can physically handle a progressive jogging regimen, but you yourself must decide whether or not you are mentally suited for jogging.


Jogging Along

      One way for you to keep fit is to go for a regular jog. Jogging stimulates the heart and the circulation.

     Go for a leisurely run for about 30 minutes three times a week; if necessary take short breaks and walk at intervals. Your pulse rate should not exceed 140. Beware of over exertion! Elderly or unfit people should go for brisk walks instead of jogging.
