- Frequency, Intensity, Time
Posted by : Unknown
A good exercise program is built on how often (frequency), how vigorous (intensity), and how long (time) one exercises, summarized in the acronym FIT.
How much exercise?
The acronym FIT beautifully embodies the ingredients of a good exercise program:
* F --- frequency determines how often you should exercise. Research has shown that exercising three five times each week is all that is necessary.
* I --- intensity has to do with how hard or vigorously you exercise. Exercises may be mild, moderate, or strenuous.
* T --- time signifies how long you exercise. Depending on your circumstances, you may exercise anywhere from a few minutes to several hours each day. You need to put in twenty to thirty minutes each time you exercise. If you choose and exercise of low intensity, you will have to exercise longer. Within limits, a high intensity exercise can be done for a shorter time. Any exercise program should be tailored to your needs.
FIT, then, means that you should exercise three to five times each week and the exercise should be moderate to strenuous, lasting between twenty and thirty minutes each session.
