An extraordinary network of blood and lymph vessels interconnect to transport fluids throughout your body. Blood is constantly referred to as your 'river of life', bringing health strength and vitality as it flows. You heart pumps blood which carries ingredients such as hormones, gases, oxygen and nutrients through a variety of vessels. To remain healthy, every cell has to receive a full quotient of nutrients, at the same time disposing of waste products and carbon dioxide.

The most important exchanges in your circulation take place through billions of capillaries. Their walls consist of only one layer of cells, enabling products to pass easily into your intercellular fluid and waste product and carbon dioxide to return into your bloodstream. Over 40,000 miles of these tiny vessels weave their way through your tissues and organs in the closest possible contact with cells. New capillary routes are continually springing up due to demand. For every two pounds you gain in weight, for example, you have to grow over a mile of capillaries.
